Dental Hygiene Matters first began as a SaMi internship project, but we quickly saw the real impact it could make. That’s why we decided to take DHM to the next level — to continue raising awareness, building healthier habits, and making a lasting difference in our community.

Co-Founder

Eesha Matharasi

Hi! I’m Eesha Matharasi, a high school student and co-founder of Dental Hygiene Matters (DHM). While I stay active in clubs like DECA, HOSA, NHS, Student Council, and SHS, my deepest passion is in the work I do with DHM. I’ve always been drawn to healthcare, and dentistry stood out to me because it’s often overlooked—even though it's key to overall health, confidence, and quality of life.

Through DHM, I’ve found a purpose in fighting dental poverty and bringing awareness to the importance of oral hygiene. I’ve seen firsthand how a lack of access to dental care can affect someone’s well-being, and I’m determined to help close that gap. Whether it’s through organizing events, donating hygiene kits, or mentoring new chapter leaders, every part of this work fuels my passion for creating lasting change.

Isabella Guajardo

Hi! I’m Isabella Guajardo, a high school student and co-founder of Dental Hygiene Matters. I’ve always believed that real change doesn’t happen by accident — it takes consistency, confidence, and pushing through setbacks. That’s exactly what DHM represents for me. After facing my own challenges I have learned how to take initiative even when it’s uncomfortable and I knew I wanted to be part of something that actually makes an impact. DHM is more than raising awareness about dental health; it’s about giving families the tools to feel empowered and healthier long-term. Through clubs I’m active in, like NHS, DECA, SHS and Student council I’ve led volunteer efforts, organized community programs, and worked to create spaces where people feel seen, educated, and motivated — because everyone deserves to feel proud of their smile.

How To Join The DHM Community?

Start a Chapter:
Lead your own DHM chapter at your school or organization. Organize events, run outreach programs, and build a network of youth change makers in your community.

Become a Writer:
Use your voice to educate and inspire by writing articles for our website. Share important oral health topics, community stories, and updates on DHM’s impact.

Sponsor a DHM Child:
Support a child in need by providing access to dental hygiene kits and education. Your sponsorship can help transform lives and promote confidence through a healthy smile.
